Sludge Happens - But So Does Compost
Composted soil and seed help vacant commercial property with dust management on CR207.
Well, what can we say! There has been a lot of attention as of late to our little business. And boy oh boy, is there a lot of information being shared that quite frankly, is not accurate! To that end, we are starting a weekly series as part of the Good Neighbor Pilot (maybe even social media videos, stay tuned) to explain what we do, how we do it, why we do it, and who our partners in this business are! (If you are a St. Johns County resident or business, that means you!) We will also be sharing more about our community, staff, customers, community service projects, and the work our industry is doing in.
When Mike Rowe started the series “Dirty Jobs”, it shed light on the unseen side of our modernized world and the people who commit their days and earn their living to what some see as, dirty. But if that show did nothing else, it highlighted the facts and truths about where things come from, where they go to, and the many who manage it. Recent legislation finally is addressing the disposal of biosolids and how places like Indianhead, have put our county as an innovator. The significant investment in infrastructure made by the owner and long term staff has put St. Johns County and the State of Florida in a place with options to support better management of materials.
See our Good Neighbor Pilot page for more information on this program.
While we have kept to ourselves since 2007, it seems the growth of our little part of Florida has found its way to our tree line (and maybe above it with all the drones). We see you, we hear you, and we look forward to engaging directly to provide information about what we do everyday at Indianhead, our plans for the future, and how we can all work together for a better tomorrow! Our little business interacts with many family owned businesses. Our operation supports every household and business in St. Johns County. Our compost nourishes the soil, supporting area developers, sod farms, parks, and private gardens. We can’t wait for you to become part of this story.
So take a tour of our website! Click through to the agencies we work with to understand how as a receiver and member of the US Compost Council we are helping agencies, businesses, and residents understand the vital role they play in the success and safety of material management. Consider removing plastic bags from your yard debris and buying some of this amazing compost!
We look forward to continuing to service our community and welcome any opportunity to engage. Let us know if we can come to your community meeting, classroom, or coffee shop to talk about composting!
Sincerely,
Heather Lane
